comb + hair grease, uncooked rice and raw chicken sculptural installation
Greasing the scalp, picking the rice, burning the hair off chicken. The ambition of rituals | shifted was to display object and food produce to signify ethnicity and challenge the meaning when removed from its customary realm; thus becoming an interface between private and public, transforming cultural ritual forms into public display. Exhibited as a sculptural installation, the work draws the viewers attention to the way(s) we construct our identity around objects and particular activities that give meaning and substance to individuals and groups.
