RITUALS | SHIFTED

comb and hair grease + uncooked rice + raw chicken

Greasing the scalp; picking the rice; burning the hair off chicken. The ambition for this installation was to display objects and food produce as visual signifiers and to consider the significance when removed from its customary setting; thus becoming the interface between the private and the public—transforming cultural ritualistic forms into a public display. Exhibited as a sculptural installation, the work attempts to draw the viewers attention to the way(s) Caribbean communities have a connectedness around particular objects and 'acts', that in turn gives back meaning and substance.
